This is done to protect the privacy of individuals and to prevent misuse of Aadhaar information. Masked Aadhaar can be used as a proof of identity and address for various purposes, including opening a bank account, getting a mobile phone connection, and applying for government schemes. However, it cannot be used for availing subsidies or benefits that require authentication of the full Aadhaar number.

Why masked Aadhar

Masked Aadhaar is a version of the Aadhaar card that has certain details masked or hidden to protect the privacy of the cardholder. In a masked Aadhaar card, the first eight digits of the Aadhaar number are hidden or masked, while the last four digits are visible. Additionally, the cardholder’s photograph and demographic information such as name, address, and date of birth are visible, while their biometric information such as fingerprints and iris scans are not displayed.

Masked Aadhaar is primarily used as a form of identification in situations where the full Aadhaar number is not required or deemed necessary, such as for availing government subsidies, opening bank accounts, or for identification purposes at government offices.
